Sun's out, fun's out.

Synopsis

This episode of Hodinkee Radio features Steven Pulvirent, James Stacey, John Mayer, and Cara Barrett conducting the official Hodinkee Radio Summer Watch Fantasy Draft for 2020. After taking two weeks off following the murder of George Floyd, the team returns with a fun and structured episode focused on building ideal summer watch collections. The draft introduces new Byzantine rules where each editor must select five summer-themed watches totaling $15 in 'Hodinkee dollars,' with watches categorized into price tiers from $1 (under $500) to \(5 (\)10,000+). All watches must have at least 100-meter water resistance, come on non-leather straps, and be actually available for purchase—eliminating waitlist-only pieces like the Royal Oak, Daytona, and Black Bay 58.

The draft proceeds in serpentine order with Cara selecting first, followed by James, John, and Steven. The picks reveal distinct personalities: Cara builds a practical yet aspirational collection including a Rolex Submariner no-date, Patek Philippe Ladies Nautilus, Zodiac Super Sea Wolf, Apple Watch, and nostalgic Freestyle Shark Watch. James assembles a dive-focused lineup featuring the AP Royal Oak Offshore Diver, Omega Ploprof, Doxa Sub 300T, Garmin Fenix 6, and Halios Fairwind. John balances elegance and utility with the Bulgari Octofinissimo, Tudor Pelagos, Seiko Prospex Alpinist, Panerai Submersible 42, and Casio G-Shock. Steven rounds out his collection with an IWC Pilot's Watch Spitfire, Cartier Santos, Grand Seiko SBGA413 with pink dial, Doxa Sub 200, and Unimatic Modello Uno. The episode captures the camaraderie and competitive spirit of watch enthusiasts while showcasing diverse approaches to building a well-rounded summer collection, with listeners invited to vote on their favorite lineup.

Speaker
Unknown Hey everybody, it's your host Steven here. If you're a regular listener, you've probably noticed that we took the last two weeks off from publishing Hodinki Radio. With everything going on in the United States right now following the murder of George Floyd, it just didn't feel right to us to keep going on business as usual. Now, we know that for a lot of our audience, Hodingi Radio provides relief from the usual news cycle, and it's a chance to step out and enjoy the things that you're passionate about. But as we grapple with bigger and more important conversations happening on the global stage, we thought that it was important to step aside and to give some space to these other voices and other conversations. And those conversations are far from over. In fact, many of them are just getting started. But we decided to bring the show back this week anyway. I just want to say personally that it's a tremendous privilege to be able to talk to you all every week and to share the stories of the incredible people we get to have on this show. With all of that in mind, we've got a particularly fun episode for you this week. It's Kara, James, John and me doing what watch lovers do, sitting around, goofing on each other, and daydreaming about the next editions to our collections. This is the official Hodinki Radio Summer Watch Fantasy Draft for 2020. If you've listened to our past fantasy drafts, you'll have some idea of what I'm talking about here, but there are a few new twists, with some new rules and a slightly modified format. We get into the nuts and bolts of what constitutes a well-rounded collection for each of us, what we look for in an ideal summer watch, and which pieces we wish didn't have such long wait lists. And, as with all fantasy drafts, things go a little off the rails, but I think the show's all the better for it. So without further ado, let's do this. Alright, what's going on fam? Long time to see. How you doing? Good, good. We haven't uh we haven't done any of these like editor convos for a little while, so it's been a while since I've seen your faces outside of like a twenty something person meeting. Yes. Mm-hmm. Car is back in New York temporarily. Here for a hot second in my in my room. I feel I feel you. As everybody who's watching this on YouTube can see, uh that's my bed right there. So everyone's literally in my room. Um but
Unknown uh I'd get to work for my teeny tiny love seat or the bed, which is right behind the screen. Can't even see.
Unknown It's nice to have you all remote. I'm at the Barclays Center of course for the main event. Woo I think that's a good question. I'm unsure. Uh but we're here. The uh the energy in the room is palpable and uh I'm excited to see how this is gonna shape the the game for the next year. Sports. All right. Sports, sports, sports, guys. We got more sports for you. Uh in the absence of basketball, hockey, football, everything but golf, and I guess what we got golf, we got German soccer and we got Korean baseball. That's it. Um in the absence of everything but that, uh, we wanted to bring you another watch fantasy draft. This is the first ever Hodinky Radio summer watch draft. Weather's getting hot, Mercury's going up. Summertime, baby. It's summer. Let's do it. It is summer. Thank God. James, does it feel like summer up in Toronto? Yeah, it's pretty warm for sure. It's uh toasty and sweaty here in New York. Yeah, I had to shut my fan off and and occasionally you'll uh this is why I Yeah Oh dab in the forehead I love that it's an audio medium James I forgot what it I was I was told this video was being recorded it
Unknown is an in unit like air conditioner is like. It's not good. It doesn't work well. No, no.
Unknown Yours does, mine does not. Guys, are we doing an hour on air conditioners? Is that what we're here doing? Uh all right. So we're doing we're doing the summer watch draft. We're introducing new rules. Uh because Gray and I love to make this as complicated as we possibly can for you. So these are Byzantine rules. They're amazing rules. I'm gonna stand by this. I will die on the hill of these rules. Um despite having changed them like 20 times in the last 24 hours. Um Alright, so what we're doing is everybody has to draft a collection of five summer watches. They're all summer themed watches. And we put a couple limitations on them and also a new method of drafting, of of tracking prices. really just measured the prices of everything. That gets cumbersome. It's not really necessary here. So we've put them into tiers. So there are what we're calling five dollar watches, which are $10,000 and up. There's $4 watches, which are $5,000 to $1,000, $3 watches, which are $1,000 to $5,000, $2 watches, which are $500 to $1,000, and $1 watches, which is anything less than $500. Everybody's got $15, quote unquote dollars to spend, uh, and you need to have five watches at the end. So there's a bunch of different ways you can get there, couple really expensive, couple really inexpensive, whole bunch of stuff in the middle, some combination. Uh that makes sense to everybody? Yep. Sure does. Yeah. All right, love it. Um for now I'll let you know if it doesn't. That's fine. Then we'll then we'll do some oop-de-oop. It'll be great. Oop-de-oop. Oop de oop. Uh all right. So we put in a couple more rules on this just to narrow it down, 'cause otherwise this would be completely ridiculous. Um in the spirit of summer watches, uh no leather straps, uh everything's either on like nylon or fabric or on a bracelet. Even if it's a watch that you know you could put a nylon strap on, but it's sold on a leather strap, doesn't count. It has to be sold on a like summer ready strap. It also has to be at least 10 met0er water resistant. You know, some people say you can swim with 50 or 30. Um, some people don't. It's contentious. We figured fine. Everything here, 100 meter water resistance. If your buddy pushes you you in the pool, have to be okay with it. Um what that means is right off the bat, no speed masters, no swatches, time x q is out, whole bunch of things that we wanted to to include here potentially. And then the last rule is if you can't buy it, you can't draft it. So no Royal Oaks, no Daytonas, no Nautilus, no Black Bay 58. Like if we're talking a year-long wait list, you're not gonna have it by the end of the summer. It doesn't count. Um there are some watches that we're gonna talk about that are not the easiest things to get, you know, like you may have to get your timing right, Rolex Submariner, for example. Um, but most retailers are not taking taking wait lists for that. You just have to kind of like get lucky and show up or have a good relationship. Um that work for everybody? We all agree. Yes. I have a quick question. So do you have to spend all of your money? You do not have to spend all of your money. You just can't spend more and you do have to get to five watches. Okay. And if you run out of money early, you can't. If it if your money starts getting low, you can't put yourself in a position where you have zero dollars heading into the fifth round. Got it. Um and just so people know, we have assembled a pre-approved list of watches here that everybody's had input on. We tried to make it so that there wouldn't be, you know, what we didn't want is everybody chooses an almost exactly the same Seiko diver for their under $500, under $1,000 watch. So we've we've limited it to one watch per brand per price tier. And we also tried to pick what we thought was like the most representative of the idea of summer watch. So there's a little bit of limitation here. Not a ton. You can hit up the show notes or head over to the website and see the the full list of what we're drafting from here. But draft order uh is Kara, then James, then John, and then I'll go last, but we're doing a serpentine draft, so then I go again. So I have the first pick in the second round. This is how we've done all our drafts. Stevie in the hot corner. Stevie in the hot corner. Uh no pressure. I had it last time and totally blew it. So we'll uh we'll see. We'll see if that happens again. James is gonna drink my milkshake here, but uh that's okay. I'm alright with that. I've come to terms. Uh cool. Should we do this thing? Any other questions before we get rolling? If if anybody who hasn't shut this podcast off listening to me read Rules of a Fantasy Watch Collection draft, uh you guys are my heroes because uh I probably basically the sports channel now. Yeah, we're like radio. We're ESPN the Ocho. Yeah. ESPN thirty five. Hodinky. Yeah, I would take that. Uh let's do this. We're not gonna give you a hard draft clock, but if you start hitting like the 30 second mark, I'm gonna start giving you a hard time to make a pick. So uh that's what we'll do. And uh Cara, kick things kick things off for us. Great. I'll I'll make it easy for you. Rolex subno date. Kara with the no date sub. Who else was gonna go no date sub first? Oh James is shaking his head. I was going I was going no date sub. Uh yeah. Why Kara? Why are you going no date sub
Unknown ? It's the classic summer watch. It's like you can swim with it, you can go to the beach with it, even though I don't because I don't like to get tan lines on my wrist. Um it's just a personal thing. Um but yeah, you can kind of just do whatever. It's just the design is good, the durability is good, and everybody just really loves it, myself included. Should I totally also it's just
Unknown like it's the in a draft like this, it's like it's the it is the watch that everyone wants, right? If LeBron is available, you take LeBron, right? Wouldn't have been not in my five. Like was not at any tier gonna be one of my picks. All right, why not, James? What what do you what do you have against what do you have against the no dates though? I don't know that I don't know that it screams summer to me. It screams like perfect sports watch and the rest of it. But there's like there's stuff on this list, stuff that I put on this list, that is like summer, hard summer. It uh I would agree with you. It took all my all my restraint and I didn't do it because I d I knew it would get chosen and we don't need this to be the Rolex submariner draft, but I really wanted to put the gold dates of uh in the top category. Uh that's because there's maybe no watch I want more right now than just a big gold Rolex. Yeah. I guess maybe there are gold watches missing from this list. Yeah, we that was a that was a decision. We talked about maybe having the top tier be all gold watches, but a lot of the gold watches are not hundred meter water resistant. It's a whole thing. We don't need to like re readjudicate this here, but uh I'm I'm with you on that one. Um that's my pick. All right. Up second James, what are what are you taking first? All right with my first pick I'm I'm going for a five dollar milkshake of a watch. Okay. And we're gonna kick off Hot Watch Summer with the AP Royal Oak Offshore Diver. A legit dream watch of mine. I th I'd go the blue, yellow. Uh yellow. Interesting. But I think within within the rules of this, within the rules of the draft, I would take whatever color I could find. So there of course are several boutique colors. Let's say I was maybe somewhere else in the world, somewhere where summer is even better than it is in beautiful southeastern Ontario. Um that summer destination of southeastern Ontario. I would I would take it yeah, the bright the bright green is really cool. Uh you know, which I believe is the Geneva Boutique edition. I could have the colors a little bit wrong, but the blue yellow I love. Uh I have a friend of mine has the black one and it's just I think it's probably one of my most favorite, like crazy uh upper end sports watches. Amazing. Love that. I think it's a really good pick
Unknown . The offshore is kind of a guilty pleasure for a lot of people. I have talked to a lot of people and they're like, I love it. Not guilty at all. Well you don't need to be guilty. I'm just thinking it is. So I think it's a great summer watch. Pays to be number one and number two in the draft
Unknown . Oh yeah for sure. It does. Those are two good good solid first picks. Uh John, what are you picking third? What's our third pick? I'm gonna go with the Bulgary Octofinissimo in uh satin polished steel. Okay. Yeah. Also good. Also great choice. Yeah, I mean I think uh this is a watch that uh I think um several of us have kind of like uh over um uh over the months that we've been uh doing the podcast uh since this watch com has come out, it's uh gotten a lot of love. Um it's I think now that it's got like the the proper water resistance uh to be a summer watch, it's even more perfect than than I than I thought it was before. So I'm gonna I'm gonna go ahead and and make that my five dollar pick. So you hit the nail on the head. The reason it's the polished steel version on here isn't just because it's new, it's because it has hundred meter water resistance, which the others do not. They're thirty meter water resistance. All things equal, do you take the steel or the titanium? Uh I I think I I go with the satin polished steel because that water resistance means that it's uh it's a real like perfect everyday watch that you do not have to worry about at all
Unknown . Yeah. Everybody agree on that? I love that you mean so you're saying if the depth rating was the same on all the watches across the board would No no if if
Unknown there was no requirement here for the depth rating. Like if we take out the rule that of the depth rating, if you're picking from the octofenesimo line, which which No, I would do the rose gold. Chrono GMT. Yeah, I would say actually no that's that's that's a fair point. The chrono GMT I would do uh if you know the depth rating was not an uh an issue. So if that was not a criterion. I'm with I'm with the one over to my left here. I'm with I'm with uh Kara on this one. I'm taking the s the satin polished or the sam blastic gold. So good. That watch is so hot. Super fun watch. Also, my favorite thing, and I think I may have said it on this podcast before, but my favorite thing about that watch is that the bracelet links, they like milled out on the back, like with a CNC machine. Uh, so the links are mostly hollow. Uh, which because the watch is so thin, it's really important because otherwise the bracelet would be significantly heavier than the watch. It would feel the balance would be all off. And so they milled out just enough to keep the density the same all the way around. So it wears like a bracelet, like it feels like it's perfectly evenly balanced all the way around. It's it's epic. It's such a good gold watch. I love that. It's so good. They really they think of it all over there, I think
Unknown . They they do a pretty damn good j
Unknown ob, yeah. So much thinking. Um all right. Uh Steve, what are you doing? Stevie. I'm up next. Uh I mean, I was gonna take the no date sub. I mean I'm not gonna not gonna lie here. I was gonna go no date sub. Uh instead of the no date sub, I'm gonna take hmm. I'm gonna take the IWC pilots watch automatic spitfire. Um I've owned an IWC pilot watch for all but I guess about a year, maybe a year and a half of the last couple of you of the last like eight years, nine years since I first got one. Um had to sell one there, then picked up a new one, picked up the Hodinki limited edition, but um I just love an IWC pilots watch and that watch I probably wouldn't wear it on the NATO they supply it with. Um I like a slightly lighter weight just nylon no leather like no no funny business uh NATO. Um but like that's how I wear my hodinky Mark 18 is on a NATO and I love it. And I think this would be like this would be my everyday summer watch would be a basic no no BS IWC pilot watch
Unknown . Stevie, you should start a NATO strap company called no bus no what do you say? No funny business NATO. No funny business NATOs? No nonsense NATO. That's no
Unknown nonsense. I'm I'm there for it. No nonsense nato. Um, I also think one of the reasons for picking this watch is the value proposition here. Um, it comes in at the top end of the three dollar bracket. Uh, so it's it's four thousand four hundred and fifty dollars and even if i put in another let's say fifty bucks to buy a new nato i'm still well under the the five thousand mark so i think i get i get a ton of value out of this pick. Um because if we look at it, what Kara picked a four dollar watch, uh James and John each pick five dollar watches. I I don't know. I would say I think the IWC can go head to head with any of those three watches. Uh and it's it's lower on the price price chart here. James is giving me a look like he disagrees strongly. It's a royal oak diver, I mean. I mean yeah, okay fair. Yeah, yeah. Sure. Alrig,ht fine. But like Alright. Uh all right. So I got I got I got another pick here. Um I get to go twice in a row. Um I'm trying to figure out whether I take something that I think might get taken before things come back around to me. Um You know what I'm gonna do? I'm I'm gonna go I'm gonna go a little off book here actually. Uh off my own book that I wrote like an hour ago. Uh I'm gonna take the Cartier Santos medium in steel. Great. Um if I've got the IWC, right, I've got like an everyday kind of like beat it up, wear it on a NATO watch. Um, I love the idea of like an elegant Cartier by the pool. Like that feels like a cool thing to me. Um, maybe it's not, maybe, maybe I'm I'm trying too hard here, but like, you know, nice pair of swim trunks, linen shirt, Cartier Santos, cocktail in hand, hopefully like in Saint Tropez, maybe. I don't know. Or southeastern Ontario, whatever. Uh whatever floats your boat. Or the what?'s It great a pick. Rose or Aperol Spritz or what kind of drink? Uh I mean Sauvignon Blanc, maybe? Cara? Savib. Savib? Cara signature drink? Um no, probably rose. If we're so if we're in the south of France, I'm drinking rose. Yeah. Um yeah, pink pink wine. Love me some pink wine. Uh spice cubes. A la piscine. Is that what they call that? Oh yeah. This guy. Exactly. This guy. But like, right? Like this is the perfect watch for that, right? Yeah. It's really um and and I love that like I could put it on a strap if I wanted to. By the rules of this, we we'll keep it on the bracelet. But uh yeah, I just think that's a killer watch. I reviewed it a couple years ago. It's a watch I still think about. Uh and when I see it on people, I'm always like, hmm, that's that's doing something. Um yeah, so Cartier Santos. So back to back IWC and Cartier.
Unknown Love that. I do like the same. My one thing is for I wish they made it in a smaller size form. Yeah. Yeah. Elfishly. And like the old, the two-tone, like the old ones, like the two-tone tiny lines I would want. But I think it's a great choice for you, Stevie. I know you love
Unknown it. All right. We're heading back back to John. Second round, second pick. What are you taking, John? Okay, with uh my second round pick, I'm gonna take a watch that I thought you might go for, Steven, so I'm really happy you didn't. Uh I'm gonna take the Tutor Pelagos. Oh, interesting. I'm gonna go with a titanium tool watch with like superior water resistance. It's got that amazing clasp that everyone loves. And now I'm you know so I'm set with a very elegant watch in my uh in my Bulgary and now I've got like my summer tool watch. This is what I'm gonna wear to the beach. This is what I'm going to like intentionally get wet and enjoy. You know, it's got an in-house movement. Like I said, it's titanium, so it's like lightweight and comfortable. And this is a watch that I've kind of like looked at uh uh from afar and admired for a while. Um in that I may still buy. at some point Um this is uh this is a it's a watch that's been on my radar for a long, long time. Yeah. Yeah, it's a killer killer watch. Great choice. Thank you. Really great choice. Uh funnily enough, not anywhere on my draft on my draft board, but uh it's an outstanding choice. Are you going are you going blue or black? Or left hand. Or a left hand. True. I always forget about the left hand. The left hand is dope. Um but you know what? It's gonna for me it's either gonna come down to the left hand or just the the the normal titanium with black. I like the I like the kind of the the slightly off um the kind of like uh uh yellowish tint uh to the loom in uh uh the bezel on the uh on the left hand that I'm looking at on their site. But uh yeah so maybe yeah you know I probably will go vote the left hand drive. Yeah that's a that's a solid choice. I've taken the the blue on the blue rubber diving in Mexico and it's uh it's just chef's kiss it's perfect. Amazing. Great watch. All right. So with that James we're we're up to you. What uh what are you taking in the second round? Well, sometimes you gotta go to work. Sometimes you gotta go to work even when it's summer. It's not always a vacation. And when I'm working, it means I might be need to go pretty deep. So I'm going with an omega Pro Prof. Oh, 1200 meters. Okay. Sweet rubber strap. Um another one of my like dream super summer watches. Again, this is hot watch summer, so I've I've got a I've got a tone happening, and it's big dive watches right now. Big dive watch energy is what we're going for. And uh and yeah, it's the Plo Prof. It's watch I've always wanted. I think it's um it's a watch that like defies everything about itself. You think it's unwearable and then it looks not only really cool, it looks great on small wrists, obviously, there's the Agnelli tie over to the overall style. I had to pick one for our list that came in under 10 that would that would sit at the right price point um because the some of these go over 10 grand and I I wasn't necessarily sure for the four dollar watch if you wanted to make it a five dollar watch with but the titanium one with no date would be ideal. This would be the steel model, uh, which it does have a date display, but would allow us to stay under 10 grand at $9,400. I think that's a good value as a four dollar, as a four dollar watch in this draft. That's a sick watch. I also love that I also love that the first two watches in your collection are the Royal Oak Offshore Diver and the Ploprof. James, would you would you ever wear the Ploprof over your shirt sleeve and yellow style? Would you do that? I would aspire to, but let's face it. You guys know how I dress, you guys know my my level relative level of style is somewhere around middling. Uh I don't think I could pull it off. You know. I'm also guessing that you're wearing this watch when you're not wearing long sleeves or you're wearing sleeves rolled up. It's summer. I don't think I'm wearing sleeves if I don't have to. I mean sometimes like I said, sometimes you go to work, but uh you know I may maybe maybe a wetsuit sleeve. Uh something like that. That makes sense. All right. Take us home, Cara. Let's uh let's finish the second round and then we're gonna do a quick debrief before you pick again and get into the third round. Okay
Unknown . Hold on. I didn't actually make a draft board because I just assumed that everything I picked would be stolen from me. Um it's a solid bet. So um I'm gonna go with the paddock seventy-one eighteen A, which is the ladies Nautilus quote unquote. Which I don't think it actually has to be a ladies. I think you guys could wear it too because it's I think it's like 36 millimeters. I actually
Unknown thought about picking it just to mess with you. Yeah, just to screw with you, but uh I figured I'd be I'd be nice here and leave it for you. I think you might I thought you might. I would also take it in r
Unknown ose gold. I should have added that to the list. This one's in steel, but I would do the rose gold with the rose gold dial because that's very summery, and I feel like it's a really big missed opportunity not to have a gold watch in my dive in my hot watch summer fake list. Um so you know it's a nautilus. Like you it's a classic design. Me personally, I've always wanted one. I will continue to want one until maybe one day I get one which is doubtful. So while we're dreaming
Unknown , this is my dive watch. By the way, I just want everybody to know that it literally says at the top of the shared Google Doc that this list exists in. It literally says no Nautilus in huge letters. Oh, does it? Oh yeah, and the first thing Kari did was put a Nautilus on there. But to be fair, this is one you can actually buy. Like this maybe is the only thing. Well, you can't get the men's, but you can get the ladies. Which you know, we've talked about this before, but this one has like a wavy dial, it's not the traditional kind of horizontal bars. Uh and we've talked about this. I want to know what you guys think. Did Paddock do this so that dudes don't just buy this watch as a smaller Nautilus? I I think so. They have to have, right? Sorry, how how big is it again? What's the diameter? I think it's 36. Yeah, it's like it's basically the size of a 30 of a uh 3800. Okay.. Ye Yeah
Unknown ah. Right, it's probab I would say that's probably why. I think it's why because I think what it w I'm just confirming the thirty five point two
Unknown . Okay. Thirty-five point two is is still very wearable for a Nautilus. I agree. Especially for summer. It's light, it's airy. Yeah. And the bracelets are so nice. That watch in in gold, I would I would wear that. Even with the wavy dial. I would I would mess with that. I
Unknown would like a wavy dial. I would support it. I would support it. Well I think for some reason in my mind I think like it some people's mind like a wavy dial is more like quote unquote feminine, whatever that means to anybody but so I think their minds they were like they were like oh like a women woman will buy this one but I don't
Unknown know. Yeah. Classic classic Swiss watch manufacturer. Oh, we'll make it wavy. Ladies like waves. Okay, well. Cool. Design process done. We'll put a teeny tiny flower on the dial and no one will see it. So ridiculous. Uh all right, so that's the end of round two. Yes. Let's do a quick recap before we go back around the bend here. Uh Kara, you have the no date sub and the 7118A, which puts you at nine dollars? No, I six dollars. No, nine dollars. You have six left. Oh yeah, six left. Nine dollars left. Six dollars left. Yeah. Uh James, you have the AP Royal Look Offshore Diver and the Omega Ploprof. That also puts you at $9 spent. John, you have the Bulgari Octofinissimo and the Tudor Pelagos and that puts you at eight dollars spent. Uh and I have the IWC Spitfire Automatic and the Cartier Santos in steel, and that means I have seven dollars spent so it's funny how that worked out right in order I did not do that on purpose uh all right let's do let's do round rounds three and four and then we'll do one last run through uh to take us take us home. Uh Kara, let's kick off round three here. All right, so for my next pick
Unknown , I'm gonna go with the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf. Nice. That's a good pick. I like that pick. It's bright blue. I like it. And it's like a classic dive watch. So now that's like my real that's like my real you know. Well I guess the sub is a real dive watch too. So you getting the bright blue? Is that the color you're going for
Unknown ? Yeah, that's what I'm going for. Okay. That's a good good pick. Nice and summary
Unknown . Yeah. Yeah. Not too big. That watch does wear it really well. I also feel like James was gonna pick it, so um please. James James has a plan here. Okay, Cara. We're just trying to thwart everyone else's picks. Basically I panicked and I just picked it because I thought James might take it. But that's my pick, the
Unknown blue one. I really like it. Awesome. Yeah, I think that's a strong pick. I think Zodiac is one of those brands that like maybe three years ago, I don't think many of us thought about very often. Uh and I think they've done like they've done a really great job over the last couple years putting out like cool, fun watches that don't take themselves too seriously. They're made in relatively limited quantities, uh, and they're super well priced. Like it's it's just a hard thing to argue with, I think. I agree. And now I'm just plotting out my other ones. All right, James, you're uh you're on the clock now. What are you what are you taking? For my third pick, it's actually um a contractually obligated sponsors pick. Uh sometimes it gets really hot when you're out there in summer and you've just got to crack into a Diet Coke. Ooh. Ooh. Wait, I got one too. Oh guys. I drank my Diet Coke before we did this. John, have you had a Diet Coke today? I haven't had a Diet Coke, I think, since the quarantine started. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I got a sponsorship from it. They they saw how much I was ordering. The Coca-Cola Company. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yep. Yeah. They've got their eye on the prize, sure. And to match up with this lovely, you know, kind of silver toned can, I'm gonna go with uh a nice kind of silver toned watch. And and this time we're gonna go with a Doxas sub 300T C Rambler in silver and orange. I think it lines up nicely with my other picks, but it kind of gives like a different vibe. It's a little bit brighter, a little bit more uh I I it also like we're moving, we're moving in Cousteau directions still with the Ploprof and then now into the uh into the Doxa and it's just one of my favorite watches uh that's out there and certainly of probably of everything on the list, if I could just pick kind of one to actually have for a summer, it would be a a sub three hundred of some sort. Uh pretty tough pick between the three hundred T professional in the bright orange or the silver, but obviously due to due to my sponsorship deal with uh Coca-Cola, their can being mostly silver, I went with a C Rambler. I think that's that's responsible of you. Yeah. Yep. Uh did anyone have any doubt in their mind that James was going to take a Doxa? Nope. No doubt. No doubt. Sometimes you gotta have a lane, right? Yeah, you got a lane. I mean, this this I I think it was safe for you to not take this in the first two rounds because I think it was a pretty good bet that none of us were going to take it. Um it's it's definitely I think a you a you thing. I feel like it would be an injustice if you didn't get to draft this watch. Uh 300 T for three bucks. It's what? 300 T for three bucks. Perfect. Uh what how do you how do you think this watch fits into like the pantheon of of summer watches this because is this is like one of the most iconic dive watches of all time. I think they're super summary and I think you know you if you look at other watches, certainly the other two that I've picked so far, or if you look at watches that I think people would normally describe or prescribe to kind of watery summer scenarios. It it's also on the very uh, you know, cost effective end of that of that one. Not not on its own. I mean there's there's obviously like the it's it's several hundred dollars more than something like a super sea wolf or, as the draft progresses, we'll see all of us move into one and two dollar picks, which really hit actual value price points. Um, and and include in for some of you a doxa. Uh I mean, for me, I think it is it is like a quintessential uh summer watch, you know, back of a dive boat, uh kind of do anything but still kind of seem just right. Yeah, it it's the swimsuit of dive watches. Uh I think especially in like bright orange or s or silver. Uh it just it it kind of it has this really like fun loving I'm more concerned with being able to go for a swim than I am uh, you know, getting into every restaurant on uh on on the strip afterwards. Yeah. No, I think that's great. I think that's great. Um and you said you're going you're going C Rambler, not professional. Yeah, we're gonna go SR for sure. Okay. All right. Um, I guess that leaves I guess John, you're up next. I'm up, yeah. So I have uh let's see what I've got. So I've got like a really robust uh tool watch diver that uh can definitely like it's titanium it's going to be like the sportiest watch that I have uh that that I've you know certainly that I've picked so far. I've got something that's super elegant that's slim um that is kind of like a real display of watchmaking too in the Bulgary. What I don't have is just kind of like a good rugged like uh you know uh land-based watch. So I'm gonna go with the Sego Prospects Alpinist on a bracelet. Uh and I'm only gonna spend two uh two hodinky bucks on that. Hodinky buck nice nice, good pick. That's a great choice. Yeah, I yeah, I think this is you know it's uh cause we're putting together a collection, right? So if for me, if I'm I'm gonna need something from the Seiko or Grand Seiko universe to consider my uh uh my you know, even my summer collection whole and uh I'm happy that this one is still available and I'm going to take it.. Yeah That's a great idea. Um anybody have any thoughts on this Seiko in particular? Because one of the things we struggled with here was which Seiko's to include on this list, because they're kind of w especially when it comes to the the value end of things it's pretty tough to beat a Seiko diver if you're looking for a great diver under a thousand bucks or under five hundred bucks. True, true. Okay. Cool. I can cool. Cool one guys. Uh so one one thing worth noting here though is this isn't the original Seiko Alpinist, right? Like these these are the prospects ones released earlier this year. They're kind of like Seiko saw how popular the Alpinist models were, which they originally introduced as even like higher value, I guess I would say, or even you know, more affordably priced. Uh and then they kinda like souped it up a little bit and and created this whole line within the prospects collection. Um with like there's a black dial, there's a white dial, there's a green dial all kind of like playing on this on this form, right? Mm-hmm. It looks great. Yeah.
Unknown Absolutely. Yeah. It has a bit of a winter energy for me. Well the green one is wintry, I think. I think that if you went with the black dial um with the bracelet, that's the way to go. Ye
Unknown ah. Yeah. Go look and watch. I'm up now. I got two picks back to back. Being being in this uh corner spot here is is not easy. Um I think I'm gonna pick I'm gonna go with John and say like I don't feel like my collection would be it wouldn't be full, it wouldn't feel well rounded uh without something from seiko or grand seco um and i don't really have something you know i i have a more elegant watch i have a sportier watch i'm gonna split the difference here um and i'm gonna go with the Grand Seiko SBGA 413, uh, which is a watch that we've talked about on the show many, many times. Uh it's a sh watch I particularly love. Um it's spring drive, it's titanium, the dial is pink. Um, to me, this is another just like super fun spring summer sun shining. That dial is gonna look absolutely incredible. Um, and I actually think this case, this Grand Seiko case looks really awesome on a NATO, uh, which is not something you see too often, but I've seen a couple people do it and I think it's awesome. So I think this could be another sort of like, along with the Cartier, it lets me kind of have a a watch that's it's a rugged, you know, everyday kind of like don't have to baby it watch, but at the same time it's it's got that kind of like elegant edge to it. Oh, that's very elegant,
Unknown Stevie. I like the idea of a pink dialed watch for you in the summer. Right? I've I've really been jonesing for this watch. This dial's just insane.
Unknown Yeah. I could definitely see it on a NATO too. I think that would be sick. Yes. It's also titanium, and I don't own a titanium watch, you know. Um I guess I own a seritanium watch, but uh having a titanium watch on a titanium bracelet is is an appealing thing come summer. I think I've I've basically, you know, to go along with the rules of this draft, I've retired anything on a leather strap until So having something lightweight uh on a br on a lightweight bracelet is is a nice thing. I'm also lacking on my list a dive watch. So to kick off round four, I gotta pick a diver. I can't imagine going through a summer without a dive watch. Uh and like James said, somebody else is gonna get some doxa value here. I'm gonna make it me. I'm gonna take the sub two hundred. Uh which is Dox's new it's their newest watch, right, James? Or at least, you know, newest family of watches. Um it's one of their one of their newest lines, yeah. Uh they're priced under a thousand bucks. They're a really classic three hand eight diver. Uh I'm kind of split between the sea rambler and the shark hunter, so that's silver dial and black dial. I think I might go shark Hterun, I might go black Dial just to have a Black Dial dive watch um on the list here, although the silver's kind of appealing. I don't know. I know that I don't want the Aquamarine or the Diving Star. Oh, the Aquamarine being Aquamarine Blue and the diving star being like bright hazard yellow. Um diving star's pretty red. It's uh I it would go along. Make sure the barracudas see ya. Yeah. Uh for all those barracudas I hang out with in my in my apartment. You gotta work on your summer. It's true. My s my summer energy is not quite at barracuda level yet. But uh yeah I'm gonna take the the sub two hundred which, at at two dollars on our chart, I think is probably one of the better values in the in the entire draft, to be honest. Yep. I agree. Great. All right, John, you're up. Second to last pick for you. I can't believe it's still uh still there, so I'm gonna take it. I'm gonna go with the Panerai submersible 42. Uh because yeah, right. I'm picking it because uh obviously it's a dive watch, but also I mean it's panorai. So you get all of the style points that come with uh with picking with picking this watch, which is I mean, I think it's like a legitimate design object. So I'm uh this is a watch that I think can straddle kind of between a watch that I can definitely go swimming with, dive with if I w if I if I want to try to do that. Um but also like you know rolled up linen sleeve like summertime. This is uh you know it's up there with I think the bulgary in terms of uh the style that it uh that it can bring to uh an ensemble
Unknown . I agree. I was so I was gonna pick that watch at one point, but what I really would like is the 38mm
Unknown . Oh the luminar duet. Luminar duay, yeah. So the only problem with those is they don't have the water resistance. They're only fifty meters water resistant. I think they're thirty actually. I don't know if we want to get it. Yeah. Yeah. That's a bummer. Because I agree with you, Carr. I love I love how that watch wears. It's just a bummer that it's a panorai that's like not actually a dive watch. Ye
Unknown ah, I like that one. But I agree. I think that I think a panorai is a really great summer watch. Which so like I
Unknown don't know. I also think they're I think they're like back. Yeah, I I think they're definitely back. I don't know how like gone they ever really were. Um I mean John which which color are you are you going for here? Uh I am going to go with the uh that kind of like shark skin gray uh dial because it's got that it's got that amazing texture with the light uh the light like the blue uh the blue uh ceramic bezel insert. It's a strong choice. That's a strong choice. I'm just looking at the uh the article that I think who actually I wrote this. Uh yeah, it's uh sorry. We've all we have all done that. I'm like, oh, there it is. There it is. No, no. I remember I remember falling in love with this as I wrote the story actually. This is uh this is a killer watch. Yeah. That dial alone is I love the texture of that dial. Yeah yeah I agree. There's a green there's an all green version of this like green on green uh that is also nice. It's got kind of that like Leica safari vibe to it. Oh yes you're right. But I still think this gray and blue is my is my favorite of the bunch. Yeah. The the uh rose gold's pretty cool too. Oh. The ro the Rosso. That's true. That's very, very true. Okay, James. James, you're up. Okay, so we're entering the the um kind of value driven picks for me. I'm down to three dollars. Uh and I'm actually going with a watch that again it'd be one that I I will be wearing all summer. I wore it most of today. And you know it,'s it's summertime, so you know you you've got to keep your fitness in check. You've got to make sure you're getting your steps in, gotta make sure you're doing the runs or the swims or whatever it is, and this is gonna be my Garmin Phoenix 6, the 42 millimeter. It's my been my go-to watch for basically all of quarantine. And uh and I absolutely adore the watch. It's uh I mean for a one dollar pick, it's a no-brainer, uh, because it works as a work watch, it works as a as a fitness watch, it works as a hiking watch and everything else. And uh I I yeah I love these. I can't say enough uh about them and uh and they just recently hit a price point which would qualify them for the one dollar price bracket. Awesome. I think that's a great pick. I think a smartwatch in general is a great pick here. Uh it's summer, you know, and honestly five summer watches is a lot of summer watches. Um I've I've been, you know, doing the same thing, James kind of wearing one or two watches most of the summer so far, but um yeah, anybody I mean the smart watch picks are always controversial with the uh the audience. I wonder, you know, John, Kara, either of you have any uh any any thoughts or any shade you wanna throw here? No, because uh my next pick was gonna be the Apple Watch. There we go. You gave it away. We now know what your next pick is. Yeah no no shade thrown for me certainly either. I mean I I've this this summer uh and or I guess the spring and summer have really been all about me getting back into running and uh like adding adding uh a watch with GPS is the like top of mind for me right now actually. All right. So so the last pick of the fourth round goes to Kara and uh spoiler alert, I think we know what you're gonna go with here. Uh, but I'll let you say it. What's your fourth round pick? It's gonna be the Apple Watch series five.
Unknown I'm a little annoyed that's gone. Yeah, sorry. So, you know, as everyone's kind of like we're rounding out our collections here. I'm with James on the steps. I'm not I've kind of given up on exercising actually during quarantine. I know most people went the opposite way. Um I didn't. I stopped working out after the first week because I was like, this sucks, and I'm just gonna like relax. So I have been riding my bike leisurely and I've been listening to a lot of books on tape while I bike or walk my parents' dogs while I'm home. So the Apple Watch would be good for that. Also I can just get all my Slack messages from Stevie when I'm late on something and that's
Unknown That's what you need. That's what you need me more ways for me to bother you via Slack. Yep. Perfect. I picked the Apple Watch. I've been wearing my Apple Watch a lot more so far during quarantine than than usual. Not every day, but it's been it's been playing a bigger part.
Unknown Love that. It's a good watch. The up the update graded the updated series is
Unknown so nice. Like it's so good. Yeah. The series five is I think I said this in the review, but like the series five is the one where I was like, ah, like they they figured it out, you know? Um all right, so so that closes out the fourth round. We've all got one more watch to pick. Uh we'll start with Kara. But before we do that, Kara, how much heading into the round, how much money do you have left to spend? I I have two dollars left. Okay. James, how much do you have to spend? Two whole dollars. John? Uh I think I've got a buck left. Yeah, that sounds about right. Uh okay, so that leaves me uh and I have got two dollars left. Uh and if all goes according to plan, I may I may come in under budget. Let's see. Let's see what happens. Uh Kara, last round, you want to get us going here? Round five, summer watch draft? Yes
Unknown . So just to recap what I have. I've got my sub, I've got my Nautilus, I've got my Zodiac, got my Apple. So I'm gonna pick a watch that I actually, did buy for my summer watch and it's the freestyle shark watch. Boom. Woo! And it costs $65. And it is not analog, it is digital. Yeah, so the seconds run, which actually is like kind of annoying. Sorry, my table keeps shaking. This is really not a good building setup. Um but I've really enjoyed it because it's so nostalgic. Like I remember them from when I was a kid entering them and they're just so fun and they're easy and they fit and it's
Unknown like Can can you describe these? Because when you first told me you bought one of these, I was like, Wait, what the hell is she talking about? And then you sent me a picture and I was like, Oh, this thing. Like this thing. They're like the shark watch. Like they're like That's a great description. Just say the name again
Unknown . That's great. That's a great description. So they're like square and they have the they're digital, so they've got a little screen and a little button to count, a little chronograph. And then they've got the fabric strap, but clips, and they're in like multicolors, and the the logo is this little shark. All right. We'll link it up in the show notes. We'll link it up in the show notes, but I think they're made in Texas. Like they've just been around forever. They kind of remind me of Tivas. Yeah. It is the Tiva of Watches for sure. The Tiva of Watches. It's like when you were around when I was around like nine, ten Tivas, Tark watches, end of story, you were it. That was that was the dress code for summer. Was maybe some umbros. Fair. If you guys know what those are, shout out to course. Yeah. Um, so yeah, so that's my final pick. And that means I actually have a dollar left. So Boom. There you go, under budget. That was a
Unknown really long-winded explanation, but it's all good. It's all good. James, what are you what are you taking? Last round? I actually uh need to uh ask if I if I'm bending a rule by picking something that should be available in August. Is it on the list? Mm-hmm. It is. But I I thought the the shipping date was a little earlier than it actually is. That's okay. I think it ships in August. As long as they ship on time, we'll we'll go with it here. I'm gonna pick it. And uh and if if if it if it destroys my draft picks, I'm okay because it's I think it's solid pick. It's a two dollar option, so it brings me right down to zero bucks and it's the forthcoming Halios Fairwind, which is a nice sort of uh multi-use steel uh uh kind of dive adjacent watch. I believe there are dive, yeah. There's versions with dive bezels and and uh kind of otherwise, uh, in real world money, it's 775 bucks, which puts it into the two dollar category. And yeah, I think these are, you know, it's kind of a like a further expression of the C4th design, but now we're at 39 millimeters. I think they've really found kind of a zone for the size of the watch with uh with a bezel and you still get 200 millimeter or 200 meters water resistance. And uh and yeah, it comes on it comes on a bracelet, which is pretty rare for a Halios. Normally they would be on a leather. And then of course this would work beautifully on a rubber as well. Yeah. That's an awesome pick. I mean, I kind of when we when Gray and I first talked about doing this show uh and we were trying to brainstorm like to make sure we had enough enough watches and some diversity. Hallias was a brand that came to mind immediately. Like they they do such a good job in this in this price category. It's kind of wild. Yeah, no, I agree. I have I have a handful of them and uh and certainly between this and then they they've got another coming out that won't make it for the summer called the Universa that looks uh also pretty sweet. So always lots to uh see on the horizon with that brand. Great. All right, John, you're up. Last pick. Uh I think it's still available, so I'm gonna take uh Casio G Shock uh DW fifty six hundred. This is a watch. Killing me. I picked you up. The last time we did something like this, and uh it's a watch I own, so I know it's awesome, and this is what I'm gonna be wearing when I go for my long runs. Boom. Sorry. Killing me. Boom. Killing me. Uh that's a great that's a great choice. I mean, the only reason we don't actually have two G Shocks on here, we thought about having the Cassio, the the octagonal G Shock as well. Uh you can't get it. The only color you can get it in is the bright red, which uh if I'm being honest, is even for a summer watch, it's too much. Not your vibe. It's just way too much. It's not I don't think it's anyone's vibe. It's just too much. Um all right. Yeah. G Shock's a great choice. Um damn it. Uh why did you guys delete uh I I had originally submitted the twenty one ten, the Cassio. Why why was that? Yeah, yeah, I just said I took it I took it off 'cause it's sold out. Oh, it's on eBay. Yeah, it's on eBay, yeah. All day long, baby. All day long. Uh we can do that. Someone's got them. We should do that at a future point, the eBay draft. Mm-hmm. All right, so for my pick, last pick of the draft, uh, you know, I can't say that we're like down to drags here. There's still like, you know, probably two dozen watches on this list that I would be very happy to own. Um I'm gonna go with something that might be a little repetitive of what I already have, but it's cool, so why the hell not? Uh I'm gonna go with the Unimatic Modelo Uno. Um it's a two dollar watch that bottoms me outright at zero dollars now left. Um maybe with that in mind, I'm I'm making my Doxa Sub 200, um the silver, not the not the black, uh, the sea rambler, not the shark hunter. Um, just so they're not too similar, but you know, unimatic divers, they're killer. Um the only reason I don't own one for real is they're a little big for me, I always have a hard time wearing them. Um but I think, you know, as a kind of like fifth watch in my collection, if I'm hanging out by the pool, if I'm going to the beach, if I like really, you know, don't don't mind having something a little bit bigger on my wrist, then go for it. Um the kind of min super minimal dive watch design has always appealed to me. Um I think they do a great job and the quality for price is is absolutely killer. I agree. Yeah, I completely agree with that. Love that choice. You came out on top, Stevie, don't worry. collections. Um, you know, I'll ask you to give give you know what's in your collection, what the total dollar amount was, so whether or not you have any money left over, and then just maybe a thought or two on on what you think the kind of like character of your your collection is, how you would talk about your collection, what you think it achieves, maybe like your, you know, indirect pitch to the listeners to uh give you give you their vote, since uh listeners will be voting as usual on uh who the winners winners are of this. Um Carl, let's start with you since you picked first. Can you give us the the rundown? I'll give you the rundown. Okay. So can we call this officially Hot Watch Summer? Sure. We'll rename this. This is hot watch summer. There we go. Hot hot dive watch summer. All right. Sorry, James is James. Don
Unknown 't say Hot Watch. Hot Watch Summer. Hot Watch Summer. Okay, so I have the Rolex sub. I have the Paddock Ladies Nautilus 7118. The Zodiac SeaWolf in Light Blue. The Apple Watch in aluminum and the Freestyle Shark Watch. So for me, I think my collection is very representative of me, if I could be totally honest. You got your got you got your freestyle which, is like totally out of left field, not a serious watch, but a fun one. Then you got your Apple, practical. Then you got the Zodiac, also fun and practical, and then you have your high-end luxury with the Nautilus, the fancy watch, and then you got the Rolex. Also fancy, but not too fancy
Unknown . I like this hand gesture you just did. For the people watching on YouTube, they get this this
Unknown There we go. I do feel like I'm at a disadvantage though with a ladies' watch in my roundup because of our majority readership are probably gonna
Unknown disagree. So maybe they could like swap in the Nautilus if they wanted. It's a Nautilus. Like people aren't going to give you a hard time. It's a Nautilus. If if if somebody wants to give Car a hard time about picking a Nautilus, put it visit the site, put it in the comments. Like it try to try to make your argument. I don't I don't think you're gonna be very successful. No, but I mean I mean if they take it
Unknown literally, like if they l would have to literally buy the same collection, then might be at a disadvantage. So feel sorry for me. And did you have any money left over? Did you spend all fifty? Oh, yeah, I have a dollar left over. Okay. Perfect. I spent fourteen dollars on my collection
Unknown . All right. That's pretty pretty damn good. Uh James, you're up next. What? I got a lot in there. You you did. Great collection. Yeah.. Thank you A really good collection. I some some some are gonna say not the best collection of the draft, but certainly a respectable one. Uh which is important. And uh James with the gamesmanship. I love it. My um my my draft picks range from 55 millimeters all the way down to 39 millimeters. We're looking at everything from the uh Royal Oak Offshore Diver, blue yellow, I think, for some fun, the Omega Ploprof, the Doxa Sub 300T, and then we're down into a Phoenix 6S, which is a fantastic kind of multi-sport watch, and then a Halios Fairwind because I adore Halios and I had to spend the two bucks, and that's the way it goes. Uh, that's five watches, it's exactly $15 in that cost. It's a fortune in uh real world money. Goodness. It's a couple bucks. I like to think that this spans everything that I would aspire to achieve in a summer. Um may maybe I'm maybe I'm out being a little fancy and then you're talking a royal oak, but I'm still, you know, I'm not wearing a long sleeve. You'll never see me in a sandal. You'll never see me in a sandal. But I'm maybe wearing a casual shoe and I've got the royal oak on. Maybe I needl perhaps? An espad. Maybe a Tom speaker, a van. And then you get to uh the Ploprof and the Doxa, which I think are kind of nice like actual take 'em diving. The Ploprof is like you want to maybe flex a little bit on the dive boat. You want to make sure that people know that like you're a diver. Look at this. Like look at this look at this Schmohawk over here. Yeah, forever. I gotta check all my gear for twelve hundred meters. It's it's really scary, like it's uh it's just you know it's more hardcore. Um and then with the Phoenix, yeah, you gotta you gotta keep yourself in shape. You gotta stay nice and fit for the summer. Uh, you gotta fit into those espadrills, that sort of thing. And uh and so you keep the phoenix going. It's also handy when you've got a work day where people are sending you text messages and everything else, and you got to keep things going because you got to make money all summer as well to pay for my more expensive picks. And then finally you've got the fairwind, which uh if if I had a a dream uh sunny day to spend anywhere in the world. It would be in uh Vancouver where Halios is from. And I think it's the finest summer day that I've ever experienced. And uh and yeah, that would be that would be my five-watch pick and kind of the my ideal uh hot watch summer. Alright. John. You're up next. Alright. Okay. So let's start, I guess we'll do them in the order that I picked them. So I've got, you know the most recent pulvery octofenesimo, uh it's got the steel case, it's got souped up water resistance. I think this is uh this is a you know a major step forward for the octofenissimo and one that really uh makes it you know capable of being like an everyday watch that can really be your summer watch. Um and it's also like I would say the most elegant watch in my collection, right? Um I've got uh the Pelagos which I think you know fits the uh it's the you know it it is filling the tool watch need the uh in the summer watch like Arsenal. It is the dive watch. It's the watch that I'm going to like be wearing if I go anywhere near water. It's going to be the pelagose on my wrist. I've got the Alpinist, which is more of just kind of like a casual, like staying on land kind of kind of thing, which you know so far in this summer has been how it's been. You know, it's been mainly kind of in the backyard and around the house. And it's also that allows me to uh you know get a Seiko into my collection. Also with the Pelagos, I get something from the Rolex family into the collection, which is important, you know, to me. Those are watches that I want represented. I've got the Panorai Submersible 42, which I think is in the one that I picked specifically is I think the best looking submersible in maybe ever actually, uh with the the textured gray dial and the beautiful uh blue bezel. And then um, you know, having a G Shock in the collection is something that uh I've probably since I was a teenager always had and there's a reason for that. Um so this is the watch that I'm gonna strap on and go uh you know, go for a long run with uh uh every day in the morning or after work. So I feel I feel like this is I don't think I'm lacking anywhere. I think this is, you know, th these five watches are more than enough to get me through uh, you know, a uh a hot uh American summer. Nice. And uh what did your total total cost come out to? Did you spend all 15 uh hodinky dollars or I believe I did, yeah. I believe I I spent uh all fifteen bucks. So I left nothing on the table. Yeah. Nice. Uh well, up last is me. Um, I'll walk through my collection also in the order I drafted them. Um, I've got the IWC pilots watch uh automatic spitfire, basic no BS IWC classic pilots watch on a NATO. I've had one in my collection for most of the time I've been collecting watches and I I love it. One of my favorite summer watches. I also picked the Cartier Santos in steel. I think it's a nice elegant watch. It gives me a little a little bit of an alternative to that sport style. Also comes with a great bracelet that's easy to change in size, which in the summer on a hot day maybe I need an extra links. So that's a nice little nice little benefit there um i've also got the grand seiko sbga 413 uh like john grand seiko is is a must-have in in a collection i'm building um and this one is titanium.' Its spring drive. It has a pink dial. It's like it's kind of out of left field, but I think it'd be a fun watch to have for the summer, one that I'd get a hell of a lot of wear out of. Um, I went for a really great, what I think is a really great value pick, uh, with the the uh doxa sub 200. um I'm gonna take it in the sea rambler uh color which is silver dial um it's just a great great standard summer dive watch uh that I can wear to the beach, not worry about. It's going to be able to take way more than I can throw its way and do so at a pretty pretty reasonable price. And then up last, you know, some some picks that I really wanted were taken. I would have loved an Apple Watch. I would have loved uh I would have loved a G Shock. But uh I decided to go with the Unimatic uh Modello Uno. Um you know gives me a dive watch alternative. It's a chunkier dive watch uh but it has this super cool minimalist design to me it kind of like splits the difference between something like a submariner and a panorai in a funny way um so I think it'd be a nice a nice kind of like fifth fifth guy to have on the on the team. I think it's very I think it's a very U pick for a dive watch to be honest. Thank you. I appreciate that. Uh and yeah, and that maxes maxes me out at uh fifteen dollars as well. So uh I spent all the way to my limit. Um you know it's it's funny, like no matter what limitations we put in place, these collections always end up looking like our personalities. Like I've I've that that having done this now a couple times, like it's abundantly clear that you know, personalities will come out through this. Um, so we want to encourage everybody, you know, these are four very different takes on on what a summer watch collection can be. Um, so if you're listening, check out the show notes. We'll have a link to the website where you can go vote on uh on who's gonna win. Uh, we're gonna take votes. Um, the voting will be open for a week. Uh maybe we'll leave it open for two weeks. We'll see. But uh we want to hear your thoughts. Also, leave thoughts in the comments. You know, we don't just want a a yes or no, uh a John or Cara, James or Steven. Um answer would obviously be Steven, sorry, James. Um but uh I'm sorry. What? Yeah. Where but we have comments? We have comments. I know. It's uh it's it's an amazing thing. Um cool. So yeah, we'll uh we'll have those links in the show notes. Check them out. We want to hear what you think about this. If you think we left something off the list, uh that should have been on the list. If there's a watch you think it's criminal, didn't end up in one of these collections, let us know. If there's a watch you think was a a slider in the draft, one that that slid till later and was a great, great late round pick. Let us know. Um thank you guys for doing this. This was a fun uh fun thing. So fun. Thank you. Thanks for having me. I love playing sports with y'all. Oh yeah. This is all the sports we got guys. I think James moved moved the chains on this one. You know, it's a game of defense. What does that mean? It's we'll talk about it later, Kara. It's a game of inches or not. It has nothing to do with the oop. Oh, it's nothing to do with the oop deop. All right. So everybody knows where to vote. Uh it'll be really interesting to see who wins uh who wins this round. James is pointing to himself. I'm not I'm not so sure this time. Oh, swish? Okay. Everybody watching on YouTube can uh catch catch the swish. Kara's pointing to people. I have no idea what's going on anymore. Alright, I've lost control of this one. Uh thank you guys for being here. And uh may the best collection win. Thank you. Super fun, guys. Thanks, Sam. Talk soon. Bye-bye.
